Global meetings guidance

The Alliance meet on a monthly basis (first Tuesday of every month) online globally and we have regional branches who meet at different levels of frequency:

  • We have established an online collaboration space where members can share their ideas/proposals for discussion. Topics covered in our meetings are decided by vote prior to each meet

  • We work under the Chatham House Rule which helps create a trusted environment to understand and resolve complex problems. Its guiding spirit is: share the information you receive, but do not reveal the identity of who said it. When a meeting, or part thereof, is held under the Chatham House Rule, participants are free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the speaker(s), nor that of any other participant, may be revealed.

  • Public statements as a group will be decided by consensus or only with specific member signatures

Working Groups

We have established specific ‘Working Groups’ to discuss complex, nuanced matters and drive technical alignment. These all have specific objectives and any member of the alliance can join the groups as an active or passive participant. These groups are also open to external stakeholders who are not part of the alliance. These include:

  • FLAG (Forest, Land Use and Agricultural Guidance)

  • Carbon offsetting & carbon neutrality claims

  • Regulatory Monitoring

  • Professionalisation & Training

  • Software Interoperability

  • Finance & Investment

  • Advertising emissions

  • Events & cultural spaces

FAQs

  • The goal is to bring together carbon accounting organisations and professionals who have tangible expertise in GHG accounting, by calculating carbon footprints. They should have a good grasp of the GHG Protocol and ideally other relevant standards and be actively working with businesses on GHG accounting regularly.

We accept organisations across all geographies, of all sizes and those operating within specialist departments within larger firms, whose focus is not necessarily climate-related.

We want to welcome all who are passionate about making a positive impact, are knowledgeable and share our values.

  • All members agree not to partake in anti-competitive practices including but not limited to operating as a cartel, bid rigging, market sharing, price fixing or sharing commercially sensitive information. (e.g. competitors should not agree to price services at the same or different but specified levels, nor to avoid particular customers / markets).

  • We currently don’t charge any membership fees, but may choose to do so in the future if this allows the Alliance to achieve its objectives more efficiently.

  • The only commitment is to sign up to our code of conduct. We currently have monthly meetings where we encourage attendance and have a number of initiatives (e.g. policy letters) in which members can choose to participate.
